I haven’t created a reflection (or mirror image) card in quite a long time and I’ve wanted to use that technique to make a pair of coffee cups from the Pun Fun set for just about as long!. Of course, I also incorporated BUTTONS because that’s the focus of the Quick and Easy Card Challenge over at Late Night Stamper’s this week. Notice how all the buttons are “naked?” Well, naked buttons are quite OK on an “informal” card like this one. The more elegant your card . . . the more important it is to put a bit of linen thread through the buttons holes.

This is how I did the reflection technique on this card. First . . . I stamped the coffee cup on the right. If you don’t have your words cut away from your image, you will have to mask off the words. The easiest way I find to mask off words is to put some scotch tape right over the top of the words. After you ink up your stamp (Basic Black ink used here) it is EXTREMELY important to remember to remove the tape before you stamp! (Don’t ask me how I know!!)

The next step is to use the image sheet from your stamp-a-ma-jig. Find the smooth side and stamp your coffee cup on it. (Doesn’t matter where . . . just make sure you’ve used the smooth side and that you didn’t stamp the words.) Then, flip the image sheet over and hover it over you panel lining it up exactly where you want it. When you’ve decided where it looks the best, press the image sheet firmly over your card stock. Lift away and the image from the plastic will have transferred to your paper. Now, it will not be as bold looking as the image that you stamped the regular way. If you are going for a “reflection” . . . like trees next to a line of water . . . you don’t need to do another thing. But, if you are making a coffee cup and you want it to match the first one that you stamped, you have one more step. That is to use your Basic Black Journaler pen and using the fine tip end, carefully draw in the lines to bold them up a bit. It has to be the Journaler pen if you plan to watercolor or use a Blender pen on it because other markers will smear, the Journaler pen will not.

To color this card, I used the Blender pen and picked up color from the lids of my ink pads. The buttons were adhered with Mini Glue Dots. The sentiment is from the set called Stem Sayings.
