9/8 Stampin' Up! Hello Doily and National Grandparents Day

It was just two years ago that my grandma passed away. She grew up in the Doily Era . . . every couch and armchair had doilies draped over them, coffee tables, the buffet and even the dining room table also had their share of doilies. Obviously, I was thinking about her when I made this card . . . lol! She was 97 and only really started going downhill the last couple of months of her life. She had a fun personality and lots of things seemed to tickle her funny bone. I remember many times where she laughed so hard she cried!! Oh, and she put sugar and cream into more recipes that you would dream possible! Ate bacon and eggs like there was no tomorrow. (She actually fried vegetables in bacon grease because it made them taste better (that was her opinion anyway). And, she figured brandy cured just about everything!! This card is for you, my dear Grandma Millie.

I made the flower pot with the Ornament Punch. The bottom is cut flush with the card and the top has it's dip punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch. I stamped the doily onto a panel of Very Vanilla card stock and then cut it in half. I like the look of vanilla and white together, so the vanilla halves where adhered to Whisper White panels.

National Grandparents Day is always the first Sunday after Labor Day. If you have a grandparent who hasn't gone to heaven . . . give them a hug and a card. Cards are treasured by grandparents and are prominently displayed for a long time. And, that reminds me, when we went through Grandma's things we found card after card after card that she kept from her only son and from us grandkids. Her favorite ones were the homemade ones. On that box she wrote . . . "Do Not Throw!" We didn't.

I loved your memories... and I love this card... I've loved this doily stamp since it was released... but I was wondering, is this a gate fold? I just can't quite figure it out.... thank you for sharing the memories and the card...

Love how you did this card!! And I loved that you shared your memories. My grandma tatted to make doilies and all sorts of things. Oh, and Grandma Millie is right, bacon grease does make everything taste better! I always keep some in the fridge, and fry taters, eggs, all sorts of things in it. My friends from up north think I'm nuts, but bacon grease is a southern staple!! lol

Your Grandma sounds like my kinda gal! My mam used to fry cabbage and onions in bacon fat and serve with the bacon and jacket potato (along with a BIG knob of butter) - food of the gods!
Your card is gorgeous too!
